The Sefer haYashar (first edition 1552) is a Hebrew midrash also known as the Toledot Adam and Dibre ha-Yamim be-'Aruk. The Hebrew title may be translated Sefer haYashar - "Book of the Upright" - but it is known in English translation mostly as The Book of Jasher following English tradition. The book is named after the Book of Jasher mentioned in Joshua and 2 Samuel. Although it is presented as the original "Book of Jasher" in the translations such as that of Moses Samuel (1840), it is not accepted as such in rabbinical Judaism, nor does the original Hebrew text make such a claim. It should not be confused with the very different Book of Jasher (Pseudo-Jasher) printed by Jacob Ilive in 1751, which claimed to have been translated by the English monk Alcuin.

Conjecture I grant you...but...it makes for a fascinating read that at the least helps to fill in some missing pieces. Gospel? No. But I found myself saying, "I could see that..." over and over. Like the Book of Enoch, you must remember that it is not part of the canon but is nevertheless captivating.

interesting content easy to read good value for the money. I would recommend this book particularly if you are interested in folklore
I'm loving learning some of the in between history of the Bible. So very interesting! I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in delving deeper into Bible History.
Very scholarly and fills in some of the blanks while lending additional support to the written word.
So that's how they got all the animals on the Ark, and that's how they kept the Ark from being attacked. Interesting. Lots of little details that the Bible does not cover.
I have heard about this book about twenty yearsago. I am happy to finally have and read it.Its a good complement of the bible.
I couldn't really find any conflict with scripture in the book of Jasher but it seems more like a historical reference than God inspired work. It does add much more detail than Genisus and on occasion uses the same kind of exaggerative descriptives that are seen in other ancient writings. These were used in lirical writings of that time in order to make a strong point and just as we might say, "he is as strong as an ox", not meaning it literally; they might say, "He could run so fast that the ears of corn would not break when he ran across their tips". We do not see this in most other scripture. Perhaps it was misunderstood by clergy of the muddle ages.
Conjecture I grant you...but...it makes for a fascinating read that at the least helps to fill in some missing pieces. Gospel? No. But I found myself saying, "I could see that..." over and over.
